Inspired Learning for Life—hear what current and alum students and families have to say

Sacramento Waldorf School provides more than just education for students from Early Childhood through High School. Our school is a place where young people manifest their unique talents and gifts, pursue their passions, and develop the confidence to enter the world with purpose and passion.

Our stunning 22-acre campus in Fair Oaks provides a safe, welcoming place that helps students discover who they are, build courage and skills to communicate articulately and confidently, and develop a true love of learning that carries them through life with their innate wonder and curiosity intact.

Established in 1959, Sacramento Waldorf School is one of the oldest and largest Waldorf schools in North America and the only local high school accredited by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). We offer a rich tradition of deep learning and meaningful connection to the environment on a beautiful campus nestled along the American River which also features a 3.5-acre permaculture- and biodynamic-based farm where students in all grades learn throughout the seasons.

What sets us apart

  • Sacramento Waldorf School fully integrates experiential learning into the arts; science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and other academics for a full, rich, living curriculum. Subject classes in Lower School, Middle School, and High School include Handwork, Music, Biodynamic farming, and more.

Our curriculum and pedagogy reflect a dynamic and changing global human community through time and place, and it continues to grow and change to reflect and meet who we are, here and now. Whether in the songs, fairy tales, and food children enjoy in our Early Childhood classrooms; the myths, crafts, and transformative historical figures from various cultural traditions encountered throughout the Lower School; or the current events and nuanced social issues High School students question and confront, we strive to honor the wonder and complexity of what it means and has meant to be human, both within and beyond our own borders and our own time. Students graduate with a thorough appreciation for cultural diversity and expression throughout the world and, as lifelong learners, are ready to deepen that knowledge and appreciation as they move forward in their lives.

  • As we develop creative and critical thinking skills, Sacramento Waldorf School inspires a love of learning and curiosity, builds confidence, and encourages questioning and exploration. Many of our teachers have PhDs and all faculty pay close attention to the emotional and academic needs of every student, enabling our graduates to enter the world with integrity. Though we are not a religious school, we acknowledge, value, and respect that growth and development are more than merely physical in every child on our campus. Faculty place a core emphasis on the journey of learning, framing academic pursuits within a natural curiosity for exploration and meaning-making. With a dynamic approach to student assessment, teachers value effort and growth as well as outcomes. Our school is also known for its vibrant, inclusive Athletics program, which supports meaningful relationships and opportunities for growth. At Sacramento Waldorf School, students feel comfortable being who they are.

  • Sacramento Waldorf School cultivates students’ inherent curiosity, preparing them for the next step in their lives, whether that’s a university education, trade apprenticeships, military service, or other professional pursuits. All high school core curriculum classes are UC-approved for acceptance into University of California and California State University systems. Our graduates are well-prepared, supported, and valued young adults with a strong sense of who they are, ready to bring their ideals and initiative to life, whatever their pursuits. Students say they feel known, accepted, and validated at Sacramento Waldorf School. They feel that they matter. They believe they have purpose. Sacramento Waldorf students look forward to attending their classes, to engage with teachers and peers and discover all that they can accomplish. In an era of disconnection and distance, we provide a place where students can become who they are meant to be and discover the unique skills, talents, and passions that they can contribute to the world. We educate young people to enter adulthood with a desire to make a difference, and the knowledge and confidence to make it happen.
